Who is this Jesus?
“You will be with child and give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever; his kingdom will never end.” NIV
So often we get mesmerized by life’s routines, and the daily battles can cause us to be weary and discouraged. And there is so much unbelief, doubt and cynicism all around us that if we are not careful, our faith and fervor can be quenched. That is why it is so important to “fix our eyes on Jesus” [Hebrews 12:2] and to keep reminding ourselves just who it is we serve.
Here’s something that’s worth repeating time after time, that’s worth storing in our hearts, that’s worth daily meditation:
Who is this Jesus we serve?
He is called the Ancient of Days, Lord of Lords and King of Kings, He is the King of Glory, the Captain of the Hosts, The Lord Mighty in Battle, the Prince of Peace, the Prince of Life, the Redeemer of the World.
He is the Lion of the Tribe of Judah, the Rose of Sharon, the Lily of the Valley, the Morning Star, the Balm of Gilead, The Sun of Righteousness, the Love of God, the Bread of Life, The Lamb slain from the Foundation of the world, the Hope of all mankind.
He is the Chief Shepherd, the Great Prophet, the Great Physician, the Power of God, the Word of God, the Wisdom of God. He is the Refiner, the Purifier, the Overcomer, the Alpha and the Omega.
He is our Great High Priest, our Healer, our Mediator, our Intercessor, our Great Reward, our Great Peace, our Friend, our Brother, our Lord. He is Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God, the Holy One of Israel, the Soon Coming King, the Returning Messiah, the Judge of all the earth.
He is our Strong Tower, a Shelter from the storm, a Shield about us. He loves us with an everlasting love. He’ll never leave us nor forsake us. He heals all our sickness and disease, He forgives all our sins, He provides for all our needs. He rises to bless us each day and His mercy endures forever.
Jesus – the name that is above every other name, the only “name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved” [Acts 4:12]. He holds all things in His hand. He rules and reigns and is over all things. His Kingdom advances upon the earth; His purpose is being fulfilled. Nothing can prevail against Him, no one can stand against Him. Angels bow before Him, demons flee from Him. And the day is coming when every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess that He alone – this very same Jesus that we serve – is Lord, to the glory of the Father!
And here’s the truly amazing part of it all: this Jesus now lives in us and works with us and through us to the glory of God. So let hearts that are weary be encouraged; let knees that are feeble be strengthened. Jesus Christ is Lord!
