A sower goes out to sow his field in anticipation of a wonderful harvest. The seed is good. Each seed has the full potential of an abundant harvest built into its DNA. It contains everything that is needed for success, prosperity, abundance, fulfillment. The only thing that will keep it from its potential is the kind of soil it will fall upon. As awesome as it is, the seed is limited by the kind of soil that will receive it.
Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up, grew and produced a crop, multiplying thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times. NIV
It won’t prosper on the footpath. Good seed is trampled under foot there, unappreciated, and crushed by self-centeredness and indifference.
It can’t take root and be fruitful on stony ground either. To survive the trials and challenges of life, the seed must be able to sink its roots deep into the soil of faith and commitment. Hard times will come and the seed must be planted firmly if it is to endure and prosper.
And the thorns – those distractions that tie us down to things that do not profit us – are always deadly. It chokes and throttles our potential and keeps us from our destiny.
Whatever it is, when the soil is not right, the awesome potential of the seed is arrested. What could have been will never be because good seed fell upon poor ground. Destinies will not be fulfilled, victories will not be won, glory will not be attained to. It is one of the real tragedies of life.
But look what happens when that same seed falls upon good ground, ground that is moist and yielding. The potential that was locked up in the seed is unleashed to become what it was intended to be. A power breaks forth from within and rises to its full potential. It produces an abundant harvest, multiplying thirty, sixty, even a hundred times. The better the soil, the more abundant the harvest.
There is an almost unlimited potential within the seed because God has invested part of His nature in it.
