The Power of Agreement
“Again, I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three come together in my name, there am I with them.” NIV
Jesus placed a great deal of importance on coming together in love, unity and fellowship. The followers of Jesus were never meant to stand alone, fight alone or face trouble alone. There is strength in numbers (Ecclesiastes 4:12). In the counsel of many there is wisdom (Proverbs 15:22). Galatians 6:2 reminds us to “carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
Coming together in prayer breaks down pride and independence – barriers to receiving help from God. Coming together allows us to grow in love for one another and helps us to understand the trials and challenges that family and friends are facing. And it helps us all to grow in faith.
Whatever the reason, Jesus considered it so important that He invested great power in the simple act of coming together in His name and standing in agreement. “If two of you on earth agree about anything you ask for, it will be done for you by My Father in heaven. For when two or three come together in my name, there am I with them.” What an awesome promise! What an incredible statement! Whenever we come together in Jesus name and agree in prayer, the Father releases great power to accomplish that for which we ask or seek. It’s simple but powerful.
The prayer of a single believer is powerful; the prayer of two or more is irresistible!
The power of agreement. Let’s use the promise of the power of agreement to release the blessing of God into our lives. For too long, many have stood alone, carrying their own burdens, nursing their own wounds. We turn to others when we get desperate enough but we don’t often stand in agreement with fellow believers and ask God for real help, for divine intervention, for power to overcome, for help for all those challenges we face.
Is there a need in your life right now? Are you facing a challenge that threatens to overwhelm you? Are you struggling with some pressing issue? Help, and all the power you need for a breakthrough, is just another believer away. Reach out. Send an SOS. Make that call for prayer and intercession. And release the power of God into your situation.
