See you on the water!
But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, ‘Lord, save me!’ Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.” NIV
Jesus made some incredible promises.
He said in His name we would cast out demons, heal the sick, set the captives free. He said we could move mountains, that nothing would be impossible to us. He even said that we would do even greater things than He did because He was going to the Father and would personally back up every promise that God has ever made. He literally gave us a blank check (ask anything in My name) to defy nature, heal every sickness and disease, destroy the power of the devil, change the course of history. Not our strength but His power – the power of the Son of God – would accomplish all these things. It is mind-boggling really! No wonder so many people struggle to accept them and end up merely dialing down His promises to levels that the human mind can grasp.
What is even more mind-boggling, however, is that throughout the ages the followers of Jesus Christ have actually gone out and done all those things. And they are still doing it! The sick are being healed, the blind are seeing again, the deaf have their hearing restored to them. Those who are bound by addiction of every kind are being set free. There are many credible reports of even the dead being raised up. The works of the devil are being destroyed and the kingdom of darkness is being pushed back in so many places. It is a sign that Jesus is who He says He is, that truly He is the Son of God, the Messiah, the Saviour of the world.
What is not often known, however, is that behind every miracle there was a believer who had to rise to the challenge of getting out of his boat and meeting Jesus on the water. They had to overcome their doubts and fears and step out.
The world (and many in the church as well) insists that miracles are not for today, that Jesus is not who He says He is, that some things are impossible even for God. But Jesus’ message to us is: if you truly believe I am the Son of God, come and meet Me on the water, take that step of faith and step out with only My word to sustain you. If you truly believe I am the Son of God, take My promises and make it a reality in your life that My name would be glorified.
The boat of religious tradition and comfortable church is safe and familiar, but only on the water will we discover the Son of God in all His glory and be able to understand and worship Him as the Son of God.
I believe we are entering a new season of miracles and Holy Spirit is calling believers everywhere to get out of their boats and meet Jesus on the water.
For too long the name of the Son of God has been mocked and disdained, and His promises scoffed at; Holy Spirit is deeply grieved.
If you are a believer, Holy Spirit is inviting you to a meeting with Jesus on the water. I know it’s a little scary; it may be an unfamiliar place for many of us, way outside our comfort zone, but it’s time to take a chance on Jesus!
In the end, it’s a choice between safe Christianity or the miracle-working power of God that Jesus spoke about, between hearing about the miracles or being part of a miracle, between worshipping from afar or meeting Him on the water. Listen to the voice of Holy Spirit and let Him confirm this to your heart today.
See you on the water!
