Power from on high
2 Samuel 22:17-20
He reached down from on high and took hold of me; he drew me out of deep waters. He rescued me from my powerful enemy, from my foes, who were too strong for me. They confronted me in the day of my disaster, but the Lord was my support. He brought me out into a spacious place; he rescued me because he delighted in me. NIV
I bet you know that life can be full of challenges and trials, sudden shifts and unexpected turns. One day it’s blue skies and the next it’s hurricane weather. Christians are not exempt from these things but here’s the exciting news: God promises you power from on high every moment of your day. His eyes are always upon you. Nothing you are facing or concerned about escapes His attention. In everything you are going through, He is at work bringing to pass His good and perfect will for your life. He says that He has already worked out a wonderful plan for your life and He commits to personally walking you into your destiny. Adversity might come, setbacks may occur but that’s not a problem because God will turn all that to your good (Romans 8:28). If you just keep on listening to His voice and keep on having faith in Him, you cannot fail.
Trials may come but victory is sure. Setbacks may occur but comebacks are around the corner. You may have experienced disappointments but God will give you new appointments. You may have missed opportunities but God has already planted new seeds of favour in your tomorrow. You may have failed big time but instead of being stumbling blocks they will be stepping-stones to what God has in store for you.
How will all this happen you might ask? Is there really hope for me given all that I am experiencing, given the big hole I have dug for myself because of my sin, the mistakes I have made, the opportunities I have missed? Listen, there is power from on high for you and with you. He is always reaching down to take hold of you and draw you out of all your troubles, always standing for you against your enemies, always seeking ways to turn things to your advantage. Ephesians 1:19 says that His “incomparably great power” is at work in us who believe. That’s our advantage. That’s what we have going for us. That’s what makes all the difference in our lives.
Because of that power from on high, you will have faith to carry on, strength to endure, courage to face whatever may lie ahead, hope to believe in better times. Because of that power from on high, you are more than a conqueror; you are able to stand strong; you are able to overcome.
Do you believe God? Then believe that that power from on high is even now all around you. In the midst of your storm, close your eyes and ask God to give you a revelation of that power from on high that is helping you, lifting you, strengthening you. See it with the eyes of your spirit. Draw on it. Breathe it in. See God bringing you out of your trouble and into “a spacious place.” See Him looking at you with delight and wonder and joy. Remember, faith calls those things that are not as though they were!
